The Ohio men's golf team got off to a solid start in the Mid-American Conference Championships and stands in third place after yesterday's first round.
The Bobcats shot a 7-over 295 and are only five shots back of leaders Kent State and Toledo at 288.
Freshman Mark Cimarolli led Ohio with an even-par 72 at the 6,802-yard Medallion Club in Westerville. He ended the day in a tie for fourth with five other golfers, including favorite Brad Heaven, from Toledo.
Rounding out the scoring for Ohio was Jon Johasky at 73 (tie for 10th), Brian Bickle with a 74 (tie for 14th), Blake Russell with a 76 (tie for 23rd) and Ryan Siekmann with an 78 (tie for 32nd). Tyler Riley from Toledo, who shot a 2-under 70 after consecutive front and back 9s of 35, tops the individual leaderboard.
The second and third rounds of the championship are today with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. The final round is set for Saturday at 8 a.m. with the MAC awards being announced following the end of competition.
