Sailor charged with roommate's murder will return to Va.

COLUMBUS -An Ohio sailor accused of killing his roommate has waived extradition and will be taken back to Virginia, his lawyer said yesterday.

Jarred Swartzmiller, 21, is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of a woman who shared a house with him in Virginia.

At a brief court hearing yesterday, Swartzmiller agreed to return to Virginia with police, said his attorney, Sam Shamansky. Police said the timing of their trip was uncertain.

A partially burned, half-naked body found Monday in Hatfield, Mass., was identified as Swartzmiller's roommate, 21-year-old Laura Anne Skinner.

Swartzmiller surrendered Thursday. He and Skinner lived in Virginia Beach, Va., and worked together as cryptologic technicians on the USS Theodore Roosevelt, an aircraft carrier based at Norfolk Naval Station. Both were reported missing Monday by a third roommate when they failed to show up for work. Investigators found signs of a violent struggle at their home.
