Commissioners ask for flood reparations

During yesterday's Athens County Commissioners meeting, Emergency Medical Agency Director Jill Harris presented a letter addressed to Dale Shipley, executive director of the Ohio Emergency Management Agency, asking for financial assistance from the state for flood damage in the Village of Glouster.

She gave the commissioners a copy of the declaration of emergency and damage assessment attached to the letter. The commissioners approved sending the letter.

In other county news:

-Athens County Engineer Archie Stanley recommended approving the $677,700 bid from General Restoration in Columbus for the courthouse restoration project with the Historical Design architectural company. The commissioners also recommended awarding the contract to

General Restoration.

Once the contract is awarded, restorations -including repairing the roof, steps and windows and fixing the clock -will begin.

-Vice President of Hocking Valley Bank Scott Knisley renewed the Athens County loan to repair the Athens County Health Department building, 278 W. Union St. The building was damaged in a fire in 1999, said commissioner Mark Sullivan. The trailer that was once next to the building caught fire, causing damage to the building.

Sullivan said, so it's actually nicer now. 17
