Credit union offers advising to locals

Penny-pinching students and Athens residents can learn how to budget their money with a free seminar given by the Ohio University Credit Union tonight.

Rich Korn, a budget expert from Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Columbus and an OU graduate, will advise attendees on putting together a budget, making the most of their budgets and improving their credit ratings, said Laura Pratt, credit union marketing manager.

One of the things we always stress is education

helping our members make the best decisions for them Pratt said. We hope for them to gain practical tools to put together their own budget.

The seminar does not target a specific audience and will provide valuable information to students, people just starting out and those trying to make ends meet, she said.

Informational seminars are offered quarterly. Past seminars include home buying and consumer credit counseling.

The credit union expects about 20 people to attend. The seminar is open to the public, not just credit union members.
