Corrigan fills another administrative vacancy

Incoming Ohio University President Roderick McDavis took another step toward filling some major administrative vacancies when he named Larry Corrigan interim vice president for administration and finance, effective Sept. 1.

Corrigan takes over for the retiring Gary North, who served in that position for 15 years. Corrigan previously was the associate vice president for finance and treasurer, serving in that capacity since May 2003.

A national search for a permanent replacement will begin in the fall, with that person expected to begin full time by July 1, 2005, OU spokesman George Mauzy said.

Corrigan will make $150,000 this year, almost a $20,000 increase from his previous salary of $131,090. North, who will officially retire on Aug. 27, made $182,500 this past year.

Other candidates for the job included Assistant Vice President for Administration and city councilman Dale Tampke and Associate Vice President for Administration for Facilities and Auxiliaries Sherwood Wilson.

The Vice President for Finance and Administration oversees more than 1,000 employees and has an annual budget of more than $100 million, more than a third of the projected $297,524,000 operating budget for OU's Athens campus.

The position is responsible for supervising several areas, including Administrative Services, Division of Finance, Enrollment Services, Facilities and Auxiliaries, Facilities Planning and Construction, University Professional Development, the Office of the Registrar and University Services.

Corrigan, who was unavailable for comment, has spent more than 32 years as an OU employee. He graduated from OU in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in finance.

An interim replacement will not be named for Corrigan's previous position.

The university has yet to name an interim dean of the College of Communication. Kathy Krendl vacated that post when she was named interim provost two weeks ago.
