An Ohio University senior reported to Athens Police Department yesterday she was sexually battered by two male assailants during the night of Sept. 10 and the next morning.
The female spoke to NBC 4 in Columbus and said her memory of that night was incomplete.
The only thing I remember is being in my bed with the guys exposed
and I just remember waking up with my clothes off she told the news station.
According to an article on the NBC 4 Web site (http://www.nbc4i.com), the woman told the reporter the last thing she remembered is being in a Court Street bar and holding her drink the entire night. Then she blacked out, waking up in her home.
The way I felt inside ... it's unmistakable she told NBC 4. I was tired. I was torn. It was not comfortable. It really hurt.
This marks the second reported case of sexual battery since Sept. 1, and there also were two cases of rape reported to APD since Sept. 1. Molly Burchfield, the APD domestic violence specialist, said this is a usual number of sexual assault cases for September.
While the definition of sexual battery in the Ohio Revised Code contains 11 different provisions, the main classifications include the offender coercing the other person by means that could prevent resistance and the offender knowing the other person's ability to consent is impaired.
Rape is classified by the Ohio Revised Code as an offender impairing the other person's judgment by administering a drug, or an offender compelling the other person to submit by using force or a threat of force.
All four incidents have been acquaintance rapes and are under investigation. Burchfield said the police do not believe the assaults are being committed by the same person or group of people.
The first case of rape was reported to APD Sept. 1, according to an APD report. The rape occurred on East Carpenter Street. The victim and the assailant knew each other, according to the report.
The other case of sexual battery was reported to APD Sept. 12, the same day it occurred. The location of the incident was not included on the APD report.
The second case of rape was reported to APD Sunday. According to the APD report, a 20-year-old Ohio University student reported she was possibly drugged and raped by a male acquaintance during the evening and early morning of Sept. 18 and 19. The rape occurred in the West Union Street area.
Burchfield said rape kits have been sent to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation for testing, but it will be a few weeks before they get the results.
In at least three of the cases, the victim knew the first name of the assailant, though Burchfield said some of those names might have been fake.
