Recent administration changes were crucial for the university to move forward, said Ohio University President Roderick McDavis in an e-mail statement.
Kathy Krendl, dean of the College of Communication since 1996, was officially named interim provost on Aug. 9, taking the place of resigning Provost Stephen Kopp.
McDavis said he felt Kopp's style of administrating was different than his, citing his more proactive approach, but said they remain good friends.
Greg Shepherd, director of communication studies for the College of Communication, replaced Krendl's position as dean.
Krendl, whose term will continue until June 30, 2005, described the transition of positions as a great learning experience.
Although provost was the only major administration change in the past two months, wrote McDavis, Christine Taylor will replace Erek Perry as interim assistant to the president of diversity. Perry left OU to pursue other career options.
Chris coming on board signals our continued commitment to diversity and the role that I have asked her to play in advancing our efforts in this area
McDavis wrote.
McDavis said he has asked Krendl to chair the Task Force on Inclusiveness and Equality that will develop and design strategic plans to improve diversity at OU.
No additional administration changes are currently in progress, McDavis said, but previous to his arrival, Larry Corrigan was appointed vice president for administration and finance after Gary North announced his retirement. And the administration is also exploring the advantages of forming an Office of Governmental Relations that will create a state and federal relation's position, which will report to the president.
Provost Krendl created the position of interim associate provost for information technology and chief information officer and appointed William Sams effective Sept. 7.
People in the (information technology) area felt that good progress has been made in terms of working toward recommendations but we needed leadership and authority vested in one office to work toward better coordination of resources and better customer service Krendl said.
