Schwarzenegger's background questioned

To paraphrase the Gipper, there you go again, Mr. Kovach. On Monday, Kevin Kovach wrote that Arnold Schwarzenegger [recalled] historical events that never happened

like witnessing Soviet tanks rolling down the streets of Graz his Austrian hometown. (Convention uses moderate speakers letter). The problem is that Kovach is recalling events that never happened.

During his GOP convention speech, Arnold never once made reference to his hometown, nor did he say he saw Soviet tanks there. In fact, he gives the clear impression that crossing into the Soviet sector was something he did rarely -but one day we were in my uncle's car. The Soviets did leave Graz in 1945, but they did not leave Austria until 1955. That would have left eight years for young Arnold to have traveled into the Soviet sector (which was a mere 30 miles away.)

In the future, is it really so much to ask that Mr. Kovach at least hear or read a speech before he attacks it as a lie?
