Reinstatement of censored pieces from the art exhibit in Alden Library and the creation of an Office of Off-Campus Housing were the focus of Ohio University Student Senate's second meeting of Fall Quarter.
Commissioner for Academic Affairs Anne Marsico said the exhibit on the third floor of Alden Library will be restored to its original state by the end of the week. The exhibit, entitled The Art of War: The effects of war on art-making
was partially removed Friday after several professors complained about the unpatriotic nature of the removed books.
When Marsico met with Julia Zimmerman, dean of libraries, and Interim Provost Kathy Krendl on Monday, they told her that censored portions of the exhibit will be returned by the end of the week due to numerous complaints.
Senate also passed S.R. resolution 0405-07 to create an office of Off-Campus Housing, which will prepare students for potential problems once they leave the dorms.
It's to make the process easier said Kristin Mazgaj, commissioner for Off-Campus Life. There's so many places to get information and it would be helpful to have it all in one place.
Jim Hintz, who was appointed as the director of the Off-Campus Housing office, will start his position Sept. 27 in Baker 204.
Senate also will be involved with Voter Registration Week, running Sept. 27 to Oct. 1. Commissioner for State and Federal Affairs Mark Mecum said the senate will run voter registration tables at the event.
The success of Voter Registration Week relies on our volunteer strength
Mecum said.
Senate President Kristin Jensen is meeting with OU President Roderick McDavis today to discuss possible ways for the Senate to help with the Halloween festivities. She also will be speaking at tonight's United Against Sexual Assault march.
