Bobcats take 4th at All-Ohio

The Ohio men's cross country team placed fourth at the All-Ohio Championships despite two runners not finishing. Due to breathing problems, Austin Schiele and Pat Harvey had to exit the race early.

However, the team was unaffected by its diminished size. The remaining runners picked up the slack and finished just behind Mid-American Conference opponent Kent State among the 39 competing teams.

Jason Linton continued to improve his already strong season by finishing fourth overall with a time of 25:58.

It wasn't my best time

but being able to hang with the OSU guys wasn't too bad Linton said. Coach (Clay Calkins) wanted me to finish in the top 10 so I think I exceeded his expectations.

Schiele, one of Ohio's top runners, had to leave the race near the 3-mile marker when he suffered an asthma attack.

Had Schiele and Harvey finished we could have beaten Kent State -no problem. Linton said.

Craig Leon, who finished in 27:00, agreed with Linton.

With Austin and Pat

we would have been battling with Cincinnati for second place rather than Kent State for third

Leon said.

Drew Frum bounced back from last week's poor finish by placing 21st with a time of 26:46. Leon and Brian King placed 30th and 32nd, respectively, and Toni Turowski rounded out the Ohio finishes at 51st place.

Favorite Ohio State took first place with Cincinnati finishing second. Other than Kent State, all MAC teams finished behind Ohio including Akron (eighth), Bowling Green (23rd) and Toledo (27th).

With Pre-Nationals coming up Saturday, Linton said he feels the team is ready for the rest of the season.

Hopefully

Austin and Pat will be back and ready to run this weekend

Linton said. With Drew running well again

we should be able to put together a tight pack for Pre-Nationals and the MAC Championships.
