The 1976 TV show The Gong Show will be recreated tonight at Casa Cantina, 4 W. State St. Cantina coordinator Matthew Harvey said signing up is free, and anyone can perform -little or no talent is required.
Participants will perform a talent routine, doing their best to keep the interest of three selected judges and the audience. If the judges get bored, or are influenced by the audience to do so, they will hit the gong, ending the routine. If the entertainer makes it to the allotted time limit, he or she is judged and given a score.
Prizes such as gift certificates from Haffa's Records, Universe of Superheros, Casa Nueva and other local establishments will be awarded to the winners.
It is something for people to do to get off their butts and be freaky for the night
said Harvey, who is hosting under the name Chuck Bare-ass for the evening.
Harvey encourages participants to utilize the Cantina's hired DJ for the night and understand that there are no limitations on what can be performed.
You can do anything as stupid as you want he said.
Cantina's Gong Show begins at 10:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to arrive at 10 p.m.
