Cheney criticizes opponent

SYLVANIA -Vice President Dick Cheney laughed yesterday at John Kerry's hunting outing, saying it clashed with the senator's voting record on gun rights.

Cheney said Kerry's new camouflage jacket was an October disguise -an effort he's making to hide the fact that he votes against gunowner rights at every turn.

Cheney found the Democrat's hunting trip amusing.

My fellow sportsmen

this cover-up isn't going to work Cheney said, speaking to supporters in a well-to-do Toledo suburb that borders the Ohio-Michigan state line. The Second Amendment is more than just a photo opportunity.

The National Rifle Association has endorsed President Bush.

Cheney pointed out that Kerry bought a new jacket for the hunting trip in Youngstown.

Which did make me wonder how regularly he does go goose hunting the vice president said with a smirk.

With little more than a week to go before the Nov. 2 election, both presidential campaigns are making a big push in Ohio, considered a must-win because of its 20 electoral votes. Bush won the state four years ago by only 3.6 percentage points.

Bush planned a stop in the state Friday, with Kerry's running mate John Edwards to visit on Monday.

Cheney spent much of his speech drawing out differences between the presidential candidates.

He said Bush is committed to protecting the homeland and that Kerry offers a strategy on national security with a record of weakness and a strategy of retreat.

Cheney charged that Kerry is trying to scare young people and seniors with false claims that the Bush administration will reinstate the draft and cut Social Security benefits.
