The Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan was finalized at yesterday's Athens County Commissioners' meeting.
The commissioners were required to submit the plan, which details problems such as those caused by flooding, to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Commissioner Bill Theisen said.
Any county who doesn't have a plan in effect will receive no future assistance (from the government)
he said.
The plan, which the commissioners put together this year, also lists the proper procedure for what to do in case of a natural emergency such as flooding, Commissioner Mark Sullivan said. It is to be instituted at the beginning of 2005.
Also at the meeting, Bob Eichenberg, Athens County Planner, presented information about the Ohio Public Works Commission's road-repaving progress. Within the past year, the commission has completed 74 percent of the project, Sullivan said.
The project should be completed in the next three to four weeks he said.
The Athens County Board of Elections and Sheriff's Office received extra funding from the commissioners because of savings from the Regional Jail funding, Sullivan said. The board of elections received $45,000, and the sheriff's office received $60,000.
We were able to do a better job managing money for Regional Jail Sullivan said.
