For the third time in as many weeks, freshman Carime Reinhart was the first Ohio runner to cross the finish line. She placed ninth at NCAA Pre-Nationals and helped the Bobcats to a sixth-place team finish with 146 points in the Open division.
Reinhart completed the 6K course in 22:08, a little more than 30 seconds behind the winner.
I could tell it was a longer race
but it did not feel a whole lot longer to me she said. I usually run better in longer distances.
Reinhart said it was good to see several Mid-American Conference teams run in order to see how she compared to other runners.
I am pumped and ready for MAC Championships she said. It is pretty exciting since this is the first one I will compete in.
Andrea Maas was Ohio's second runner, finishing in 71st place with a time of 23:22.
Ali Green (106th), Lauren Birnie (111th) and Alicia Myers (130th) also scored points for the Bobcats. Kendra Churchill (148th) and Katelyn Reepmeyer (157th) rounded out the Ohio finishers.
Churchill said she did not know how she would do or what to expect since this was the first time she has ran a 6K.
My time through the 5K was about the same and running an extra 1
000 meters was not that bad
she said. I had no kick at the end
so it wore me out.
The team performance was good and showed a continued improvement, coach Clay Calkins said.
The entire team ran well in its first longer race of the year
he said. It gave them good experience for regionals
which we will be running in later this year.
MAC teams Kent State and Miami finished 24th and 25th, respectively, in the White division race. Toledo placed 34th as a team in the Blue division with 820 points. Northern Illinois won the Open division team title with 69 points.
With a weekend off between now and the MAC Championships, Calkins said he thinks the team can move up from last year's 13th-place finish.
Calkins said the team is in its taper process now, when mileage will be decreased and speed work will be the main concentration.
It has worked pretty well up to now and hopefully it keeps working through MAC championships
he said.
