The Ohio University School of Theater is performing George Bernard Shaw's satirical comedy Arms and the Man as the second production of the 2004-05 season.
The school decided it needed to do a small light comedy after choosing several serious productions for the season, such as The Laramie Project
director Jack Young said.
Young, who joined the School of Theater faculty last year, said he suggested Arms and the Man because he thought it would be fun.
A season is like a meal he said. We have to balance it out and so
I got dessert. A little key lime pie is not a bad thing after a heavy meal.
Shaw's most popular play is a charming romp through misbegotten love triangles
ambition
patriotism and a case of mistaken identity
said Maureen Wagner, the assistant director of the School of Theater. Set in Bulgaria
a soldier barely escapes from battle during wartimes and finds himself hiding in the daughter's room of the most prominent family in town.
