The Ohio indoor track and field teams were back in action Saturday at the Findlay Classic, and they proved that missing a week hadn't affected their performance.
The Ohio indoor track and field team returned home with several top-10 finishers, many finishing in first place.
Coach Clay Calkins said he was pleased with the results of the meet.
It was a great second meet for us
Calkins said. By now we normally have three meets. It was just great to get a meet in with the weather the way it has been. We had a great meet.
For the men there were first-place finishes in both track and field events. Shane Gibson headed up the field events with a first-place finish in the shot put.
On the track, sprinter Dan Bailey had a first-place finish in the 600-meter run. Distance runners Jason Linton and Pat Harvey claimed the top spots in the one-mile run, nabbing first and second place, respectively. Harvey also came in second place in the 800-meter run.
Distance runner Austin Schiele came in first place in the 3000-meter run. Schiele said he was nervous about the run, but watching everyone else got him ready to show what he could do.
I knew the competition coming into this meet Schiele said. I wasn't expecting the first-place finish and it was one of those things where I had the opportunity
and I just went for it. I wasn't planning on it; I was trying to see what I could do. I hadn't run in so long
so I was scared
but the end was pretty rewarding.
