Guard Mychal Green was announced as the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week Monday for his role in Ohio's victories against Toledo and Bowling Green.
His 17 points against Toledo led the team in its 76-68 victory, while his 13 points and clutch play down the stretch against Bowling Green allowed the Bobcats to knock off the Falcons in a 72-69 thriller in The Convo Saturday. Green is the first Bobcat to receive the honor this season.
Ohio Open canceled
A scheduling conflict has forced the cancellation of the Ohio Open track meet, which was scheduled for April 30.
Ohio's Goldsberry Track surrounds Pruitt Field, where the lacrosse team is scheduled to meet Oregon that day at 1 p.m. To make up for the cancellation, head track coach Clay Calkins announced that the men's and women's track teams will travel to Hillsdale, Mich., for the Hillsdale Relays April 28-30.
Bracket Buster match up set
As part of Bracket Buster Saturday on Feb. 19 -in which 64 teams from 13 conferences will look to improve their standing for entrance into March's NCAA Tournament -the Ohio men's basketball team will travel to Michigan to take on the Detroit Titans of the Horizon League. The game is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. at Detroit's Calihan Hall.
Also, as part of the Bracket Buster agreement, Detroit will come to Athens to battle the Bobcats in 2006.
Of the 32 games to be played, 11 will be covered by ESPN, six involving MAC schools. Arkansas-Little Rock will play at Bowling Green; Buffalo will play at Fresno State; Drexel will travel to Ball State; Kent State will play host to Southern Illinois; Western Michigan will play at Northern Iowa; and Miami (Ohio) will host Wichita State.
