Sciences names interim dean

Benjamin Ogles was named Ohio University's interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences yesterday, two months after President Roderick McDavis announced Dean Leslie Flemming's resignation.

Currently professor and chair of the Department of Psychology, Ogles, who makes $74,700, starts the dean's position effective July 1.

It's an exciting time for me. Arts and Science is a great thing; it's almost half the university

Ogles said. We feel like we provide some of the best training around. (Arts and Science) have been a part of Ohio University since it started. However, Flemming's $159,605 contract with OU continues until Aug. 1 when she will start a master's degree in divinity at Bexley Hall, an Episcopal seminary in Columbus.

Ogles came to OU in 1990 as an assistant professor of psychology and became associate professor in 1996. From 1999 to 2002, he served as director of clinical training for the Department of Psychology. His interim position will be one year.

Faculty members in the College of Arts and Sciences were asked to nominate candidates for the interim dean position, McDavis said at his April 14 press conference. A national search will be conducted to find a permanent replacement.
