Spring Football: Bobcats set for spring fling

Coach Frank Solich doesn't want his team to accumulate any more black and blue in tomorrow's Green & White game.

The Bobcats have suffered a number of injuries this spring, which have been especially detrimental to the offensive line. Right guard Matt Miller is one of nine Bobcats that will sit out tomorrow's scrimmage. Earlier this week, Solich was unsure about the status of offensive tackle David White, who suffered a bone bruise in last Saturday's scrimmage, but is now slotted to play for both sides tomorrow.

Injuries aside, Solich is still hoping for a highly competitive finale to the team's spring practice schedule.

A lot of it will depend on how banged up we are going into it

Solich said. Hopefully we'll be able to get a few guys healthy stay healthy and have a good game. We're looking forward to it.

It is yet to be determined whether or not the quarterbacks will wear red, non-contact jerseys.

Like last year's Green & White game, Solich said he will split the teams so that the first-team offense will be on the same team as the second-string defense and visa versa.

Although the offense showed signs of improvement in last week's scrimmage, the defense has been the definitive winner in the team's two scrimmages this spring. It has yet to allow the offense in the end zone, allowing just five field goals in 140 plays.

Outside linebacker Taj Henley wants to keep it that way.

The offense is looking a lot better Henley said. But we're going to come into the scrimmage Saturday with the intent and attitude that we don't want them to get into the end zone.

While a sparse few have come to Peden Stadium to catch an early glimpse of the 2007 Bobcats, many more are expected to take advantage of the last chance to see Ohio football in Athens until September. More than 1,600 people came to last year's Green & White game, Ohio director of media relations Brian Gunning said.

Every time we have practice we try to make it game-like

said cornerback Mark Parson, who had an interception in last week's scrimmage. But this game is a lot more exciting

especially with all the people that come.

Sideline switcheroo

Next season, students sitting in the student section will have familiar backs to stare at.

In compliance with a new student seating policy instituted by the Mid-American Conference in 2004, the Bobcats will switch from the west sideline to the east. According to the policy, home team student and band sections have to be outside the visiting bench area.

Along with the bench switch, the visiting team section will be moved from the west sideline to the northwest corner of the stadium.
