Time Warner Cable's digital phone, high-speed Internet and cable TV services went down today after a major fiber optical cable was cut between Lancaster and Logan.
A construction accident occured in Lancaster when a backhoe dug through the cable
which is a major fiber feed to southeast Ohio said Operations Manager Gordon Pettey, who is with Ohio University's Facilities Management.
The outage affects the city of Athens and Main Street in Lancaster only, and Time Warner has been working on the problem since about noon, said a Time Warner customer service representative. As of 5:50 p.m. one end of the fiber was fixed, and workers were beginning to fix the second end.
Time Warner is not the bulk provider for Ohio University, Pettey said. He said OU purchases more than 50 channels from Time Warner, including WOUB and seven of its channels.
OU channels are still operational Pettey said. The movie channel and channel 19 have a notice running to notify students about what is happening and what channels are still available.
Service was restored at 8:03 p.m., said a Time Warner representative.
