Ghost stories are always fun to tell around this time of year, and now Ohio University students and Athens residents can get into the spirit of Halloween with a new book dedicated entirely to OU's ghastly ghosts.
Guide to Ohio University Ghosts & Legends is a compilation of folklore and personal accounts by OU alumnus Craig Tremblay. From dorm spirits to building ghosts to the infamous Ridges, Tremblay touches on most of Athens' favorite paranormals.
Tremblay has had the idea to write a book about Athens' ghosts since his years at OU ' 1998 to 2002. He kind of forgot about the book idea, he said, until he stumbled across some articles about a haunted Ridges tour he tried to assemble in 2000. He thought it'd be fun to write a book about OU ghosts and legends in the area.
Guide to Ohio University Ghosts & Legends focuses on many of the supernatural tales in Athens. Many stories involve spirits in dormitories and fraternity and sorority houses. It's fun to read the stories pertaining to your own residence hall, which might help explain all of those weird noises and funny occurrences.
Tremblay also adds in his experiences. As a freshman he lived in Washington Hall on East Green. He tells about a girls' high school basketball team who lived in Washington Hall during a weeklong basketball camp.-
but there were definitely some interesting twists he said.
There aren't many books out there that chronicle just Athens and OU ghost stories, Tremblay said. This is his first published book, and he enjoyed hearing people's personal accounts with the university's many ghosts. A compilation of these various tales would make another interesting book, he added.
Tremblay will be at the Little Professor Book Center, 65 S. Court St., today from 4 to 6 p.m. to sign copies of Guide to Ohio University Ghosts & Legends.
