The Ohio University Police Department is turning to students for help in the investigation of a professor's murder.
A flier, posted in the laundry room of Treudley Hall on West Green, asks any students in the room Sept. 24 between the hours of 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. to contact OUPD. The flier is connected to the investigation of the murder of Ohio University professor Phillip Bebb, OUPD Lt. Chris Johnson said.
Bebb was found dead in his home Sept. 24 around 8 p.m., within the time frame mentioned on the flier. Johnson would not confirm if anyone had contacted the police or if any similar fliers were placed anywhere else on campus.
OUPD has been assisting the Athens Police Department in the investigation, Johnson said. Calls to Capt. Tom Pyle of the APD were not returned.
While there are no security cameras in any residence halls, resident assistants are responsible for patrolling all areas around a residence hall, said Judy Piercy, director of residence life. Since the Treudley laundry facility is not directly connected to the residence hall, OUPD and vending staff are responsible for its security.
RAs do check the exterior of the building while doing rounds, Treudley RA Erin Krouse said. RAs are on patrol between the hours of 8 p.m. and 1 a.m. on weekdays and until 2 a.m. on weekends or during the time frame mentioned in the flier.
Anything found by an RA is logged in an electronic filing system, Piercy said. At press time, requests for the log of the hours indicated on the flier were not fulfilled.
In addition to the log, RAs are told to report problems to a superior.
If they saw anything suspicious or concerning they'd immediately call an administrative staff member
Piercy said.
