The winner of the 2007 World Series: the Colorado Rockies.
Many of the so-called experts and smart guys are picking the Boston Red Sox to come away with baseball's greatest trophy. But I urge you: Don't count out the Rockies just yet.
The Rockies are the hottest team in all of baseball. Colorado comes into the World Series having won 21 of its last 22 games. A winning streak like that is nothing to ignore.
This team has talent. Boston might have the big names like Big Papi, Manny Ramirez and Josh Beckett, but the Rockies have one of the best hitters in the National League this year in Matt Holliday. The team also has one of the brightest young shortstops in the league in Troy Tulowitzki, who made a very solid case for Rookie of the Year. Eight of the regulars in the Rockies' lineup during the regular season hit .300 or better.
Everybody knows the saying defense wins championships. The Rockies were in the top in the National League in fielding percentage. Four of the Rockies' eight position players have a fielding percentage of .990 or better.
There is also the fact that the Rockies have swept both the National League Division Series and the National League Championship Series. The last team to do that was the 1976 Cincinnati Reds. Guess what ended up happening to that team? World Series champions. I'm not saying these Rockies are the '76 Reds, but I'm just saying history has a way of repeating itself.
Sorry Jonathan Papelbon, no more Riverdancing for you.
