Soccer

The Ohio soccer team's offense seems to have run dry.

The Bobcats have scored just three goals in their last four match-ups, compared to seven in their first four Mid-American Conference games. This weekend, that cost them two wins against MAC foes.

Tempers flared during Friday's match-up with Northern Illinois (6-4-4, 3-3-2 MAC) at Chessa Field. Despite out-shooting their opponent and racking up eight corner kicks, the Bobcats (4-8-3, 4-3-1 MAC) were unable to find the back of the net and fell to the Huskies 1-0.

Freshman Sarah Brown, who got a yellow card during one of many collisions between the Huskies and the Bobcats, said the team was expecting a physical game and got just that. The match-up saw 21 fouls, but only four came from Ohio.

They kept just taking hacks at us

but then after I pushed that girl I was fine Brown said.

Head coach Stacy Strauss said her team should have been prepared judging by past games with Northern Illinois.

I mean certainly we were out-fouled and the disappointing thing is that some of them were late cheap fouls when the ref wasn't looking

she said. But we knew that they were going to do that

and we could have avoided it.-

sophomore Halle Plagens said. Jackie is a freshman and she really holds her own

so absolutely Callie and Jackie both bring a lot to the game.

Yesterday, Western Michigan (3-9-3, 1-5-2 MAC) was the first and last to land a goal when Amy Letzgus scored off a Broncos corner in the 41st minute, allowing the team to walk away with its first MAC win, 1-0. The Bobcats are 0-6 when their opponent scores first.

Just like so many other game this season, the Bobcats were unable to finish on many scoring opportunities: Ohio out-shot the Broncos 15-5.

Right now we are looking for that finisher

someone who is going to do whatever it takes to just put the ball in the net

Strauss said. Clearly we had more chances than them

but at the end of the day it doesn't matter if you don't make good on them.

The 'Cats will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Bowling Green on Friday and Toledo on Sunday.
