Woodward to speak at MemAud tonight

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Bob Woodward will speak at Ohio University tonight at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium as part of the Kennedy Lecture Series.

After meeting with a communication law class this afternoon, Woodward will speak at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

Woodward is currently the assistant managing editor of The Washington Post, where he has worked since 1971. He won the Pulitzer in 1973 for his work with fellow Post reporter Carl Bernstein exposing the Watergate scandal that led to Richard Nixon's resignation.

Before his speech, E.W. Scripps School of Journalism Director Thomas Hodson will introduce Woodward and present him with the Carr Van Anda Award.

Hodson said a visit from one of the world's most noted journalists was very exciting and helps with recruiting new students.

Whenever we bring in noted speakers of this stature

it draws attention to the school Hodson said.

Established in 1968, the Carr Van Anda Award is E.W. Scripps' most prestigious award given to journalists who have made significant contributions in the profession. Past recipients include renowned journalists Walter Cronkite, Ted Turner, Allen Neuharth, Seymour Hersh, Christiane Amanpour and Nina Totenberg.

In addition to his newspaper works, Woodward has authored or co-authored 11 No. 1 national best-seller non-fiction books, more than any contemporary American writer. His most recent book, State of Denial: Bush At War, Part III, will be one of the focuses of his speech.
