Although Ohio University students only got to celebrate Halloween with the annual street party Saturday, trick-or-treating can be a multiple-day affair for area children.
The city of Athens held its citywide trick-or-treat at 5:30 p.m. last night.
This was the third night of candy-collecting for many children as OU's Residents' Action Council preempted the city's event with two nights of trick-or-treating on campus Monday and Tuesday this week.
While on West Green, siblings Aurora, Miguel and Gabi Santiago-Flores unanimously said the best part of the Halloween tradition is getting candy. The plan was to get double the candy by trick-or-treating both at OU and in Athens city, but it's a secret
the Santiago-Flores children said.
The Residents' Action Council, which is made up of the residence hall staff members and residents who participate in their hall councils, sent flyers to five local Athens elementary schools inviting the students to trick-or-treat in OU residence halls, tRAC member Kevin Yurasek said.
About 130 students came to the South and East greens Monday and almost 200 came to West Green Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. to collect candy from awaiting OU students.- Morris said, adding that he enjoyed seeing the children's excitement.
Many residents in James and other residence halls got involved in the festivities.- she said.
