Although the construction to East Green has irked many students since it began over the summer, Ohio University's Undergraduate Admissions has not been among those negatively affected, OU officials said.
Kevin Witham, senior associate director for campus visit and off-campus programs, said he didn't think this construction negatively affected the tours or the way visitors viewed the campus.
People like to see we're moving forward as a university with renovations and construction
Witham said.
Gamertsfelder Hall, whose $1.4 million roof work was recently completed, has been continually shown - Swanson said.
Johnson Hall resident and freshman Colleen Cheek disagrees.
[Visitors] won't see the campus as beautiful as it really is she said.
Although Gamertsfelder hasn't been renovated recently, it has uninhabited, sample rooms available for showcasing. The Read-Johnson Scholars Complex, two much newer residence halls, is generally shown during honors and scholars programs. Admissions must then coordinate with residents to exhibit their rooms because there aren't any samples, Witham said.
This summer visitors' tours avoided East Green and showed James Hall instead of Gamertsfelder because East Green Street was torn up to fix piping, Admissions Advisor Jill Okey said. Every so often situations call for changes in tour routes, but only for short periods of time.
A few times this quarter, junior tour guide Thomas Albright has taken his groups to James Hall and another West Green residence hall instead of Gamertsfelder for safety reasons. He said he wanted to avoid the potential for falling debris.-
he said.
