Ohio's eight-game road trip ended the same way it began ' with a split.
The Bobcats won the first game Friday against Eastern Michigan 4-1, then fell Saturday 5-3. The split this weekend was the fifth split series for the Bobcats.
It was a pretty tough weekend
said goaltender Chris Carlson. It's getting pretty old splitting with teams.
Friday, Brett Molnar's second-period goal broke a 1-1 tie and gave Ohio (9-7) the lead for good. Nick Frasse and Phil Oberlin scored in the third to cap the scoring
We played really well Ohio coach Dan Morris said. We got better as the game went on. We took the play to them.
Special teams were the key to Saturday's game. None of the eight goals scored in the game came with both teams at full strength. Eastern Michigan (7-8) had four power-play goals and a shorthanded goal, while Ohio had two power-play goals and one shorthanded goal. Following a scoreless first period, the Eagles scored three goals in the second and never looked back.
We carried the play (in the first) then we gave up three goals in the second
Morris said. We had seven breakaways
but we didn't score on any. We missed our chances.
Carlson played both games in net for Ohio, his first full games since suffering a wrist injury against Oakland a month ago.
I felt great
Carlson said. Having time off
you get to look at your game. Mentally
you see where you need to improve.
Frasse, a freshman, scored goals in both games, while forward Brandon Steffek filled in on defense for the third week in a row.
Brandon played real well on defense
Morris said. Nick played really well also. He scored both nights for us. They were key players (this weekend).
Coming off his team's fifth split of the year, Morris said that the reason for the splits is complacency.
It's a competition factor; complacency
Morris said. They don't have pride or competition for perfection. They do what they need to do and nothing else. They don't realize that it takes hard work to achieve what they want.
