How sweet it is: Bobcats advance to Sweet 16

Editor's note: The field hockey story on the front page of today's printed newspaper was placed there incorrectly. The story that ran was a Nov. 2 story previewing the Bobcats' appearance in the Mid-American Conference tournament. The correct story, which can be viewed below, was a recap of the team's victory over American yesterday. The correct story will be published in tomorrow's newspaper. The Post apologizes for the error.

After some miscommunication led to a botched scoring opportunity in the second overtime yesterday, Ohio forward Torrie Albini stuck out her arms and yelled toward her sideline in frustration.

Given a second chance immediately after, Albini made it count.

Albini scored her second goal of the game after the botched penalty corner, and more importantly, sent the No. 15 Bobcats into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament with a 3-2 victory over No. 14 American in a play-in game at Pruitt Field.

I was a little upset with one of my teammates for not giving me awareness with (the Eagles') players coming in from behind

Albini said about the sideline exchange. It was just in the heat of the moment.

The Eagles (16-5) allowed Ohio to get another shot at a penalty corner after the failed attempt. This time, defender Nikki Gnozzio found Albini again, and she beat American goalkeeper Alyssa Poorman for the victory.

I mis-received (the pass) initially and I knew that if I could get around the defender the goal would open up

Albini said. It's somewhat of my signature move ' I like to take it right

get the keeper off her line and hit it across the goal. That's what I did.

The goal couldn't have come at a better time for the Bobcats. Not only was American dominating on the offensive end as the game progressed into the latter stages, but Ohio was getting tired.

You could tell from everyone that fatigue was setting in

said coach Neil Macmillan. You try to run substitutes out there

but you also try to make sure you have good balance.

Mid-American Conference Player of the Year Jessie Martin made two saves late in the second half of regulation and a stop on an American breakaway in overtime.

Martin said as the time wound down, her nervousness was rising.

I didn't really get nervous until I noticed there were five minutes left to go in (regulation)

Martin said. We were tied 2-2

and at any point

either team could have taken over the game.

Macmillan credited his goalkeeper for keeping the team in the game.

In the second half

she really came up big for us
