Ohio University dance students used personal emotions and experiences to inspire the pieces for this quarter's Senior Dance Concert.
The concert will consist of seven solo pieces and five group dances. There are individual aspects to each piece, but many have a strong emotional correlation, said Kristen Gerding, a senior dance major.
Kelly Hume, a senior dance major and publicist for the show, said her group piece He's Making Violent Love to Me
Mother! expresses the frustration of being angry but having to appear happy to the outside world.- To 'Stay' is inspired by everyday experiences. She uses twisting motions to demonstrate the struggles that one goes through in life.
Despite the turmoil present in some pieces, Gerding maintains that most are not intended to be sad.
An emotional response is not necessarily a negative one Gerding said.
