The nine seniors of the Ohio swimming and diving team have a mission. That mission is to win the Mid-American Conference Championship.
The Bobcats (2-0) start their MAC schedule this weekend when they hostAkron (0-1) and Buffalo (1-0) at the Aquatic Center today and tomorrow.
For the team
I really want us to win the MAC and we have the bestchance out of any other year said Ilse Petersen, a senior co-captain.I want to go out with a bang.
The seniors proved their leadership last weekend by defeating a verytough Ohio State team and an equally strong team in Kenyon. EmilyWylam, the other senior co-captain, was named MAC Swimmer of the Weekfor her performances in the double-dual meet, the fifth such honorshe's won in her career.
It definitely comes as a surprise every time
because there arepeople just as deserving on every other team and our team as well
Wylam said.
However, she does not get much time to celebrate. Wylam squares offagainst Andrea Lehner when Buffalo comes to Athens. Lehner, asophomore, is a transfer student from Maryland, and she was MAC Swimmerof the Week two weeks ago. Wylam's matchup with Werner is one of thekey showdowns tomorrow.
Wherever they put her (Lehner)
we're going to have to be ready to go
and she's very versatile
Ohio coach Greg Werner said.
Wylam is looking forward to the challenge.
I am getting to see this transfer student
and I get to see how Irace against her this weekend and see what she brings to the table interms of competition
she said.
Both Akron and Buffalo have strong diving teams. The Zips are a bitmore balanced in terms of experience and talent, while Buffalo iswell-coached and disciplined. Both of these teams pose a threat to Ohio.
(Both teams') divers are top-notch
Werner said. But they are strong in other areas as well
