Melissa Griffin was not fazed despite her team's opening-game defeat to Miami Saturday. Following the Bobcats' first opening-game loss in Mid-American Conference play this season, the middle blocker and her teammates responded, taking the next three games and the match, avenging their only loss in conference play this season.
They always come out tough against us
and we made too many errors in the first game Griffin said.- and everyone did an amazing job of responding.
Griffin led Ohio with 18 kills, surpassing Ohio all-time kill leader Lori Dyer in the victory. The senior also collected a season-high 11 blocks to push the 'Cats past the RedHawks.
I'm very excited; it seems really surreal
and it feels like it didn't happen because it's something that is just kept in a record book
Griffin said of becoming Ohio's all-time kill leader. It hasn't really sunk in yet
and everyone has been so supportive.

Outside hitter Stephanie Blackburn also moved up in the record books, totaling 20 digs against Miami to move into second-place all-time in digs at Ohio.
The senior captain, who added 11 kills to record her 13th double-double of the season, said the Bobcats' victory in Oxford was more about gaining an advantage in the MAC, as opposed to enacting revenge.
I think that it was really about winning the MAC championship
because we knew we had to take down Miami to do that
