As Athens County Law Director Garry Hunter pointed out in the recent debate, he represents Athens City and the Athens City School District, reviews and prepares all city contracts and ordinances, advises 11 city departments and supervises the city prosecutors. In addition, the job has become very specialized, requiring him to give daily advice on transparency in government issues, land use issues, environmental issues, federal grant matters, discrimination matters, telecommunication matters, public safety issues, retirement issues, health insurance issues, worker compensation issues, lay-off issues, ethics issues, tax abatement issues, annexation matters and economic development. Municipal law is not something you receive training for as an assistant county prosecutor, despite what Pat Lang might think. I support the candidate with a proven track record and knowledge of municipal law. I support the re-election of Garry Hunter as Athens City's law director.
