Your Turn: Garry Hunter takes advantage of legal system

Recently, I received an e-mail from Garry Hunter, Republican candidate for law director. Actually, he sent out a mass message to all OU students. I do not appreciate spam in the first place, but for the law director to do this, I am shocked. This is clearly against Ohio University and local voting regulations. Should not the top legal advisor for this county be informed enough to follow those very laws?

While we are on the subject, this same director of law was claiming agricultural tax exemptions for a group of pine trees growing on the property of his hilltop estate. I'm surprised with his four or more jobs that he finds the time to be a tree farmer and e-mail spammer as well. These trees are not used commercially nor do they provide any agricultural return. So why was he receiving these tax breaks? There are sometimes birds outside of my apartment; can I apply for applicable pet shop tax exemptions? Never. So why is this man able to consistently sidestep our laws for his own benefit, you may ask? Because worst case for him, the infractions will simply be reported back to his own office where he can conveniently set them under a stack of other issues.

Hunter has run unopposed for almost 20 years and seems to be enjoying the privileges of his post (at the expense of normal Athenians). He has become too comfortable in his position to make the tough choices that will move Athens forward and perhaps thin out his wallet.
