Your Turn: Help the hungry in Ohio

As Thanksgiving approaches and we reflect on the many things we have to be thankful for, it is important to remember those who are less fortunate than we are. According to the latest statistics from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 35.1 million Americans are considered food insecure ' including 12.4 million children. As we sit down to eat our Thanksgiving meals, millions of Americans will be wondering where their next meal is coming from.

If you believe this is an unacceptable situation, there are steps you can take to help right here on campus. Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity is sponsoring a food drive for the Southeast Ohio Food Bank that could help many hungry men, women and children throughout the region, but we need your help. If you want to help us feed the hungry, please bring non-perishable goods to 78 East State St. at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9. Coming together as a community, we can do so much to help the less fortunate among us. We hope you will choose to be a part of that.

Nate Nelson is a sophomore political science major and an associate member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Questions may be directed to the author at nn318806@ohiou.edu.
