As a reply to Chris Bruce's review of The Darjeeling Limited in Monday's paper, I have little more to say then it was misguided and ill-informed. To call this the pinnacle of Wes Anderson's career, or a masterpiece
one must wonder whether or not Mr. Bruce has even seen any of his other films. This is not to say the film did not have its moments, but overall it was a disappointment after waiting in huge anticipation since the New York premiere weeks ago. The characters were far from intriguing, as was their direction, and the writing was not what you would expect from a collaboration between the legendary Roman Coppola and Anderson. However, Anderson again showed his mastery of mis-en-scene and beautiful cinematography in such an incredible land. I support Anderson's attempt to be more diverse, but part of the brilliance of his previous films was the incredible characters he wrote, which were at a loss here. Overall, The Darjeeling Limited made me hope Anderson goes back to writing his movies with Owen Wilson.
