Bobcats take both weekend meets

After the water settled in the Aquatic Center Saturday afternoon, the Bobcats walked away with two convincing wins.

The Bobcats defeated Denison 136-105 on Friday, and then Youngstown State 134-87 Saturday afternoon.

Ohio won the first six events Friday night against Denison and didn't stop after that. The team totaled 10 first-place finishes in 13 events. The Bobcats received a big boost from senior diver Jamie Acks, who led the team with 18 points by winning the 1-meter dive and the 3-meter dive.

Over break, coach Greg Werner's rigorous, endurance training paid off when freshman Amanda Cecere finished first in the 1650-yard freestyle, and then watched fellow freshman Stella Johnson finish second. -

Cecere said of the intense training over winter break. I went about 17 seconds faster.

The next-fastest swimmer was Denison's Blake Taylor, who finished 20 seconds behind Johnson.

The type of training we just got done doing is directly applicable to that race coach Greg Werner said. I was very happy with how we performed and I didn't expect some of the performances we had.-

Johnson said. I used to feel a little weak at the end.-

I felt like I could finish strong.

Saturday's meet against Youngstown State followed suit as the Bobcats won the first 10 events. -

Bower said.

Eight different swimmers had first-place finishes Saturday. Werner said that he believes that depth will be a huge factor as the season winds down to the MAC Championships.

That meet will be decided by depth

he said.
