Ohio's trip to Charlottesville, Va. for the 28th annual Virginia Duals tournament this weekend resulted in another two losses for the Bobcats ' first a 36-3 handling by Virginia and then a 20-19 loss to North Dakota State.-
five people will wrestle to what they're capable of and five won't he said. The next match
it will be vice versa. We just need for all of us to be on the same pattern.
Coach Joel Greenlee, whose team is now 4-9 in duals, agreed.
We need to get consistent where everybody's wrestling well at the same time
he said.
Getting started has also been a problem for the Bobcats. They lost the first two matches in each contest this weekend, giving both opponents a quick head start. In eight of Ohio's nine losses this season, it has lost both the 125-pound and the 133-pound matches.
At the 125-pound division, freshman Heath Allen was forced to step in after senior Caleb Metcalf's season ended with a neck injury. Allen has a 1-14 record for the season. Quentin Keyes and Seth Morton have split time in the 133-pound slot and combined for an 11-18 mark. Morton performed at the 141-pound level at Virginia this weekend and finished 1-1.
Greenlee said the injuries have played a factor in Ohio's struggles in the lighter divisions this season and acknowledged that the early losses tend to have an effect on the rest of the meet.
We're just kind of out of luck
Greenlee said. But that's the way it goes. We're just trying to make due with what we have to cover all the weights.
Even when Ohio gets down early, the team has to remain confident in itself, Christensen said, or the defeats will keep coming.
We've got to keep positive
he said. We're good. We just need to keep on believing we can win.
As Ohio heads back home for a Mid-American Conference meet with Northern Illinois Friday, Greenlee said there were some positives to take away from the defeats in Virginia, especially the return of Erik Schuth and Jacob Ison from injuries. Schuth finished 1-0 and Ison went 1-1 this weekend.
Good stuff's happening to us
Greenlee said. We're starting to get people healthy
but sometimes it takes a match or two to get back into the swing of things once they get back into the lineup
too.
