City to consider alternatives to gentlemen's club

City administrators will soon review two alternate plans for the Stimson Avenue property first slated to become a gentleman's club.

Demetrios Prokos, owner of Pro Rentals, Inc., submitted two plans for developing 9, 11 and 13 W. Stimson Ave. to the code enforcement office, said Steve Pierson, director of code enforcement.

Both plans include 15 apartments and a restaurant that will serve alcohol. One of the plans includes four stores and an auto-shop, while the other plan has five stores, according to the plans Prokos submitted.

No zoning application or permit has been submitted, Pierson said.

Pierson has forwarded the plans to city administration for further review. Prokos will meet with officials at an undetermined time to discuss the feasibility of these plans, Pierson said.

The plans might require further work, Pierson said. Prokos' plans call for four stories while city codes only allow three and a half, Pierson said.

More parking also will be needed. One parking spot per resident is required, in addition to parking for the possible stores and restaurant, according to city codes.

The plans call for over a hundred residents but are short by about 20 parking spots, not including parking for the restaurant and stores, according to the plans.

The building will have to be demolished or partly reconstructed to accommodate these plans, Pierson added.Prokos did not return calls from The Post.

The first plan for the building was for a gentleman's club and was submitted by Three Wide Entertainment on Dec. 17. The club would feature dancing and entertainment with 120 seats and no alcohol, according to the zoning application.

Pierson forwarded the application to the Athens City Board of Zoning Appeals to determine if the club violates city codes, according to a letter Pierson sent to Three Wide Entertainment.

The board, along with concerned residents, will meet Feb. 12 to discuss the club, according to the letter.

The proposed club might violate a section of the city code prohibiting businesses that are against morals and decency, specifically pandering obscenities that do include performing

said Councilwoman Debbie Phillips, D-4th Ward. If the board prevents the club from opening, Three Wide Entertainment could take the city to court.
