Editorial: Abandon ship

During winter break, Ohio University lost two more top-level officials, in addition to a handful who have departed in the last year. Much has been made about student retention numbers, but a perhaps more troubling statistic is the number of high-ranking administrators who choose to jump ship.

One administrator who announced his departure over break is John Burns, director of Legal Affairs. Burns, who had been working at OU since 1969, simply decided now was a good time to retire. While his decision cannot be faulted ' a man should be able to retire without fuss, after all ' it comes as OU faces mounting legal turmoil. The vacancy leaves a large hole in the Ohio University system.

The other departing administrator is G. Christine Taylor, the director of Diversity, Access and Equity. Taylor chose to investigate the supposed greener pastures of Miami University. For that decision, Taylor will receive a pay increase and an office close to MU president David Hodges.-
