A special moment in senior Simone Redd's career quickly turned sour.
Redd scored the 1,000th point of her career late in the first half, but the Bobcats dropped their Mid-American Conference opener to Kent State, 74-68 in overtime yesterday in The Convo.
I got it
Redd said. I'm not going to say it doesn't mean anything because it is a milestone but we needed to get a win.
It was a tough loss to fathom for the Bobcats. Kent State (4-9, 1-0 MAC), which dressed just seven players, had struggled in their non-conference schedule, but the Golden Flashes were able to score at will against the 'Cats in the paint.
The Golden Flashes' two post players, Anna Kowalska and Ellie Shields, combined for 34 points and 16 rebounds. Kent State outscored the Bobcats in the paint 30-16.
I think they exposed how bad our inside defense is, coach Sylvia Crawley said. We played right into their hands.

Down one again with just over a minute to play
Quintana Ward hit a 3 to put Ohio ahead 60-58. But those type of 3's were few and far between in the second half.
Ohio
which came into the game leading the MAC in 3-point field goal percentage
shot just 4-15 from that range in the second half and overtime.
I think our team thinks 3-point shots first, Crawley said. We've got to get the ball inside.
Catherine Cain
who shoots just 55 percent from the line
connected on both her free throws to give Ohio a 62-60 lead with 39 seconds remaining.
After Kent State's Rachel Bennett tied the game back up with a jumper
