If conference play is all that truly matters, the Bobcats could be in for some trouble.
Foul trouble, that is. Not committing them, but rather drawing fouls from the opposing team.
The Bobcats lost their Mid-American Conference opener against Kent State in a close overtime match, 74-68. The Bobcats went to the line only eight times for 15 tries. Kent State yielded 20 points off free throws.
This is a concern for coach Sylvia Crawley, who said the problem may stem from a lack of aggressive play.
(We have to) attack the basket
penetrate to score first and not really worry about the fouls Crawley said. If they call a foul that's icing on the cake.
She said she would like to see the team play with a more aggressive nature that can form a 'nobody can beat me' mentality.
Returning MAC champion Bowling Green (12-3, 1-0 MAC) is next up for Ohio (7-7, 0-1 MAC). The Falcons knocked off their first MAC opponent at home Wednesday night, pounding Akron, 88-56.
Bowling Green was able to pick up 31 free-throw shots in the game while limiting Akron to just eight.
Bowling Green is a very good attacking team
Crawley said. They really know how to draw fouls. They have a knack for that.
Crawley said the team will be ready to take on the Falcons tomorrow and that a win would greatly boost the confidence of the team.
I came in thinking Miami is the rival
but I think secretly it is Bowling Green with our team
Crawley said. Bowling Green will definitely be ready for us
and our kids will be ready for that game as well.
