The opening of Chipotle at 41 S. Court St. has been pushed back tentatively from this winter to the beginning of April, a restaurant representative said.
The opening was originally slated for the beginning of 2008.
The world of construction is a little bit slow
said Jennifer Simenic, a Chipotle representative.
More details will be released closer to the opening, Simenic said.
Mark L. Construction Inc., the construction firm remodeling the building, could not be reached for comment.
The location was vacated by Taco Bell last March. It has 4,357 sq. feet and will seat 87 patrons, including 18 people on the patio, said Steve Pierson, code enforcement director.
Chipotle representatives signed a lease in September to rent the building, said Larry Payne, membership service coordinator for the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce.
It should be pretty exciting to have that on Court Street and that will benefit everyone Payne said in September. Currently, the closest Chipotle location is in Lancaster, about 45 miles northwest of Athens.
