The used luxury car dealership proposed for the former New-to-You Shoppe location needs one more approval, said Steve Pierson, code enforcement director.
Pierson will forward the application to Service-Safety Director Paula Horan-Moseley in the next few days for her final approval, he said.
The application for the 9 W. Stimson Ave. property was submitted by Pro Rentals, Inc. on Jan. 22 and approved by Pierson yesterday.
If granted final approval by Horan-Moseley, the dealership ' which is split into a showroom and office area ' will sell used high-end cars and specialize in customer orders, said Demetrios Prokos, property owner and owner of Pro Rentals, Inc, in a previous interview.
The dealership could share the property with a strip club if the Athens City Board of Zoning Appeals determines the club adheres to city codes in their March 11 meeting.
Chris Stotts, brother of property manager Kate Sanders, submitted a zoning application for a strip club at the location on Dec. 17.
Prokos may submit a second plan and zoning application for the property in the next few days, Pierson added.
There are no known details about what the plan would be, but Prokos previously submitted two preliminary drawings for an apartment complex, shops and a restaurant.
Prokos withdrew the plans because they go against several city codes, including allowing food and drinking establishments to be within 200 feet of a residential zone, he said.
If Prokos does submit an application and plans that violate city codes, the zoning board will vote on whether or not to pass code variances for the plans, Pierson said.
If Prokos' potential plan and the strip club application go to the zoning board at the same time, the two parties will have to negotiate for the use of the building, Pierson said.
