Coming off a week in which she won five total races and helped lead the team to two more wins, Chelsey Bower was named Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week.
It was great (winning Swimmer of the Week)
Bower said. It's a great accomplishment.
Through the last three weeks, coach Greg Werner has seen Bower improve all aspects of her swimming.
She's really started to come around Werner said. She's dropped her times quite a bit looks a lot better in the water
so we're very happy the conference recognized what we see on a daily basis.
Bower won the 100-yard butterfly and was a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay team in a win against Marshall. She then followed up that performance with a stellar three-win day against bitter rival Miami on Senior Day. Her wins in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races and in the 200-yard medley relay helped secure a win over the RedHawks for the first time in seven seasons.
The whole team is coming off a big win against Miami
Bower said. We just have to stay focused and continue to swim hard.
Tonight, Ohio travels to Cincinnati to take on Xavier, and then heads to Muncie, Ind. to battle Ball State in its final MAC dual meet.
We're going to have to compete very
very well
Werner said. We're going to two very hostile environments. (Both programs) are having great years. They're used to winning
and they've done a lot of winning this year.
Not only are both Xavier and Ball State having good years, they both have swimmers formerly recruited by Ohio.
With the emotional win against Miami, and the ultimate goal of winning the MAC Championships looming, the intensity at practices has really picked up.
As a team
we have stepped it up
Bower said. Not only for Miami and these last meets
but for the MACs as well.
With just the two dual meets left before the MAC Championships, the Bobcats have to remain focused on the task at hand.
It is very exciting
