It's not easy to mention the Ohio women's golf team and Danica Patrick in the same sentence, but both are eyeing big wins in Indianapolis in the coming weeks.
Ohio heads to the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course ' just down the street from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway ' this weekend for the women's Mid-American Conference Championship tournament led by one of their youngest and most energetic players.
Coming off a third-place finish out of four teams at the Falcon Invitational hosted by Bowling Green, the Bobcats have at least one player firing on all cylinders: freshman Erin Cahill.
The Hilliard, Ohio, native posted two of three rounds in the 70s and tied for fourth place overall at Stone Ridge Golf Club. She was four shots behind individual champions Jessica McCann and Carley Hrusovsky of Bowling Green.
Brickyard Crossing, one of the nation's premier public golf courses, will play host to the tournament. It is known for being a difficult driving golf course, and keeping the ball in the fairway will be of utmost importance to those seeking a title.
Last year, the MAC Championship was held at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio, just outside of Heath. The Bobcats were steady throughout the week, finishing in fifth place. If not for a disappointing final-round total of 328, the result may have been better.
Defending champions Kent State are red-hot, having racked up nine consecutive top-five finishes, including a commanding 28-stroke win at Ohio State last weekend.
On the men's side, the Bobcats are at Kent State this weekend for a rare one-day tournament.
Windmill Lakes Golf Club in Ravenna, Ohio, will host the FirstEnergy Invitational on Saturday.
