Softball's devoted fans

The Ohio softball team doesn't have the O Zone and students don't flood the stands for a white-out. Sometimes Rufus shows up, but that's only on special occasions and when the weather's nice.

It doesn't matter though. The softball team has an extremely dedicated, more than adequate alternative ' its parents.

Adorned with the title Senior Moms

Nancy Salvatore, Suzanne Catlette and Ruth McKelvey are the wily veterans of the group. The title simply comes from the fact that their children (Kristen, Alicia and Maureen respectively) are seniors on the team, but a lot of respect comes from the title.

Freshman mom Nancy Wethington was adamant about making sure the senior moms receive credit for keeping the tradition going while introducing the newcomers.

The senior moms have been so nice in explaining what they do here Wethington said. Some of the chants I have brought with me from my daughter's (Emily) little league days and these parents have grasped it. They've just grasped it.

The camaraderie between the moms resembles the bond their daughters share on the field, in the dugout and in

the dorms.

They create their own chants, such as, Bobcats

Bobcats what's it gonna be? Defense

two

three! and they repeat the ones their daughters create all while having a great time.

Freshman mom Kathy Krueger said that a summer, or in this case a spring, can sometimes be dictated by the parents.

Some seasons

as a fan and as a spectator

the fans make the season

Krueger said. Some summers are not so great and some are really great

and when you think about it
