Sheriff's deputies collected DNA yesterday from a Nelsonville man accused of kidnapping and raping an 18-year-old female high school student from Jacksonville, Ohio.
Deputies took two mouth swabs from Jamie R. Boyd, 26, at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail. Both rape and kidnapping are first-degree felonies, punishable by three to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
The woman told Detective J.E. Taylor that she answered a newspaper ad for a paper route. Boyd picked the woman up at her house on Dec. 26, ostensibly to show her the paper route, but instead took her to his house and raped her, according to the search warrant.
Boyd said the sex was consensual, but a hospital nurse told Taylor that a rape kit showed signs of force, according to the search warrant. Taylor asked Boyd for a saliva sample, but he declined, necessitating the search warrant.
Prosecutors charged Boyd with felony assault and felony child endangerment in 2007. In late March, Boyd pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child endangerment. The felony charges were dropped. Boyd's driver's license has been suspended four times; he has been in three auto accidents and has 12 traffic convictions.
