Executive Vice President and Provost Kathy Krendl sent an email to Ohio University faculty members inviting them to open forums to discuss the restructuring of multiple colleges.
Faculty members will receive copies of the restructuring proposal when it is finished, which could be as soon as next week. OU hopes to have moved from a proposal to a plan of action by the end of Spring Quarter, Krendl stated.
The goal is to look at areas of academic restructuring in order to reduce administrative costs and to improve efficiency
Krendl said.
Restructuring would involve integrating colleges or distributing their programs among several different colleges to eliminate unnecessary administrative positions.
The email was sent two days after about 15 employees of the School of Human and Consumer Sciences addressed Krendl at the monthly Faculty Senate meeting.
The faculty just want to be involved in the process said Annette Graham, who read the statement to Krendl. We understand the academic programs best and we want to be at the table.
The School of Human and Consumer Sciences is a part of the College of Health and Human Services, which is being considered for realignment.
Krendl said that the aim of the restructuring in the School of Human and Consumer Sciences is to save between $500,000 and $750,000. She added that faculty will be consulted before any decisions are made.
The first order of business will be to talk to you Krendl said.
Before the Faculty Senate meeting, the faculty and staff of the School of Human and Consumer Sciences met to discuss their lack of involvement in the restructuring decisions.
As we understand it
no decisions have been made yet
Graham said. This is a process we want to be involved in.
Graham said that faculty members have told her they are happy with Krendl's invitation to the forums, and that the faculty are pleased that we are going to have a voice in the process. That's all we wanted.
