Bowling Green looked to avenge its loss to Ohio last week.
The Falcons (2-4, 1-1 MAC) fell behind early to Kent State (2-4, 1-1 MAC). Sam Kirkland broke an 86-yard run and Quinton Rainey blocked a field goal and returned it 82 yards for a touchdown.
Seventeen unanswered second-quarter points from the Falcons boosted them to a 17-14 halftime lead.
Kent State outscored the Falcons 21-19 in the second half, but it was not enough. Falcons quarterback Tyler Sheehan powered his way through the defense with a 9-yard scamper to the end zone late in the game.
We played 56 minutes of really good football on defense
Kent State coach Bill Martin said. We gave up 140 yards of passing in those four minutes.
Bowling Green receiver Freddie Barnes was red-hot all day. He caught 22 passes for 278 yards and three scores.
Owls soar over Cardinals
The surprising Temple Owls (3-2, 3-0 MAC) are pacing the MAC East, but they got a tough game from hapless Ball State.
The Cardinals held the lead until the third quarter, when the Owls went ahead 17-13. Temple took the lead for good on a Bernard Pierce touchdown, sealing the Owls' 24-19 win.
They know what they are offensively and they pound the ball at you and throw play action Ball State coach Stan Parrish said. They wear you down after a while.
Around the MAC
Western Michigan (3-3, 2-1 MAC) was all over Toledo (3-3, 1-1 MAC), 58-26. The Broncos' attack churned out 534 yards of total offense.
Central Michigan (5-1, 3-0 MAC) beat up on Eastern Michigan (0-5, 0-2 MAC), scoring eight touchdowns in a 56-8 win. Chippewas quarterback Dan LeFevour threw for three touchdowns and ran for three more.
The Miami RedHawks (0-6, 0-2 MAC) are still in search of their first win of the season, after losing 16-6 to Northwestern.
